Hello,

As you know, February marks the history of black people in Canada and the United-States of America. At Maa-Kal Boutique Canada, we have chosen to highlight this month by introducing you to black designers or interior decorators who are an integral part of this industry around the world.

Our first presentation is about Eva Sonaike.

Eva Sonaike is one of the most protuberant Black interior designers in Europe of the last five years. Before talking about  her accomplishments in the design world, a little bit of her biography is necessary to understand her background.

Eva was born and raised in Germany from Nigerian parents. She graduated with an MA (Master of Arts) in Fashion Journalism from the London College of Fashion, with Contemporary African Fashion and Textiles Speciality. She then pursued an editorial career working as UK Fashion Editor for Hubert Burda Media for six years, and for German Elle, InStyle and Focus.

In 2009, she founded her company with the goal of rocking the industry of luxury home-décor and accessories with African colours and aesthetics. The company’s philosophy that translates into “bringing color to life reflects on her signature hand finishing, distinct designs and high-quality manufacturing products that include: cushions, rugs, fabrics and furnishings.

Eva Sonaike designs all her collections herself and stands behind her motto: “Bringing Color to Life” by using influences of colourful African clothing culture and European antique and mid-century furniture traditions in her luxurious products.

Eva Sonaike's products are often highlighted in thr UK and international interiors and fashion publications and can be found worldwide in prestigious stores like Liberty, Fenwick of Bond Street, Amara and Selfridges in London, Globus in Switzerland, Temple Muse and Alara in Lagos, ABC Carpet & Home in New York and Indigo Living in Hong Kong and Dubai; and are regularly highlighted in UK and international interiors and fashion publications.

Even though Eva has reached her goal by putting the 'African' aesthetic in the global textiles and interior industry as part of luxury interior and lifestyle brands on the map. She continues to work hard in order to gain more influence in the industry and climb the ladder of success.
